Alice says...

"why portugal??"

this is a very popular question these days! well, there is a story behind it and if i tell you, you'll probably think that i've gone mad. so, i may as well tell you then! :b

well, we were sitting around thinking of where we would go after australia. and we weren't even sure that we would go somewhere together-- we were just throwing different possibilities into the air, watching where they landed. and while we always talked about opening up a restaurant, we had never seriously talked about where our restaurants would be, or when exactly we were planning and opening them. knowing that it was time to move on, we were beginning to feel a bit of pressure hang over us....and suddenly, in a moment of frustration and exasperation, selina threw her hands up in the air and said, "Alice! Can we just move to Spain and open up a dumpling shop already?!?!"

well wasn't that the conversation of all conversations! so we started thinking about spain... you know, nice weather, siestas, AND paella, how can you go wrong with a decision like that? so we starting getting excited about the idea over the week, dreaming up different ideas, making more and more plans by the hour-- when a tarot reader intervened and told me to go to portugal. she didn't even know that we were thinking about spain when she said it, which was a little eerie... and i thought, how bizarre, she could have said any country in the world, and she picked one right next to the one i was planning on going to anyway... maybe there is something there that we're missing.... and after hours of researching, comparing, and arguing over the options, we met finally at lisbon, portugal. why? well we could tell you many different reasons to make it understandable, but at the end of the day, we chose it because.... we chose it!

we've never been there, we've never run a business before, and we've never seen the support that we have been getting from people we hardly even know with this crazy dream. and i do say, how's that for a saturday night!

peace and crazy dreams,

alice xx
